The WAR PADDLE
« MÁI CHÈO »
The « War Paddle - Mái Chèo » belongs to Particular Arms, from the Categorie of Rigid Arms, and it's a specific weapon from coastal regions of Việt-Nam, extrapolated from Civilian Paddle of fishers, and very dreadfull. It had been used in Navy Forces from NGÔ Dynasty(939 JC) untill into Tây-Sơn Dynasty (1778~1802).
At the SONG Dynasty Period (960~1279), Chineses had imitated the Paddle use as a War weapon under LÝ Dynasty (1009~1225) for inventing the weapon called Quải 拐 (Stick-Paddle), for example Quải-Thương 拐 槍 (Spear-Paddle), Quải-Nhận-Thương 拐 刃 槍 (Spear-Paddle with an Edged Blade)...
In reality,this Spear-Paddle « Quải-Thương 拐 槍 » from LÝ Dynasty period (1009~1225) came from the Spear-Halberd (Kích-Thương 戟 槍) of this same LÝ Dynasty.

The wielding method of the « War Paddle - Mái Chèo », is deeper than the one of Battle Spade - Bút-Chì.
It's there a weapon extremly handy for Vietnamese Navy Forces in medieval times, still always used with efficiency untill under Tây-Sơn's Dynasty (1778~1802). His wielding techniques differ totally from these of War Pole and Battle Staff. The Lung called « Múa Bơi Chèo - the Paddle Twirling » is truthly dreadful and it has enriched the wielding method of the Battle Spade - Bút-Chì.
